Educator Life

I have known I wanted to be in education since I was a little girl. My mom taught for 30 years before retiring, and I always knew that I wanted to do the same. I will say my teaching journey took some turns. I started at Texas A&M University after graduating high school pursuing a degree in Kinesiology with a double minor in Dance and History. My goal was to coach and teach dance and history. After two years at A&M I decided I wanted to pursue my other passion cosmetology and left A&M to go to cosmetology school.

After a few years of doing hair, and starting a family, I realized that I still had a desire to teach, AND that schedule would be much more beneficial with a little one. I made the decision to go back to A&M to finish my degree. When I returned, I realized that my original degree plan wasn’t really an option for me anymore, so I went middle grades social studies and language arts. A&M prepares anyone going into middle school education to take their elementary education certification as well.

Long story short I graduated and ended up with 8 certifications. Much more than your average teacher, but I am not the norm in sense of the word. I am certified in:

  • All Levels Physical Education
  • All Levels Health
  • Early childhood – 6th grade – any subject
  • 4th-8th grade Social Studies/Reading Language Arts
  • 9th-12th grade History
  • 9th-12th grade English Language Arts
  • 8th-12th grade Dance Education
  • English as a Second Language Supplemental

I have MEd in Counseling and Development from Lamar University, and am pursuing my LPC (licensed professional counselor) by doing my hours as an associate. I am currently a school counselor and am loving every minute of it!
